St. John's, Newfoundland - The St. John's IceCaps defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3 on Saturday night at Mile One Centre. Eric O'Dell scored two goals and added two assists while Josh Lunden scored the game-winner with 26 seconds left in the third period.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 5:52 of the opening frame on a goal by Patrick Holland. Nathan Beaulieu joined the rush and feathered a pass to Holland who made no mistake and put the puck by St. John's IceCaps starting goaltender Mark Dekanich. The 'Dogs took a 2-0 lead at 7:58 of the first period as Tyler Murovich put the puck off the post and Philippe Lefebvre buried the rebound past Dekanich.
St. John's got on the board at 15:47 of the first stanza as Eric O'Dell shot the puck from the slot and Raymond Sawada tipped the shot through the legs of Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Dustin Tokarski.
Hamilton regained a two-goal lead at 16:51 of the first frame as an IceCaps player gave the puck away right up the middle to Murovich who snapped a shot blocker side past Dekanich.
The IceCaps cut the lead to one as Eric O'Dell came in on a rush and took a shot from the circle which was deflected past Tokarski. St. John's tied the score with 2:07 left in the third stanza on O'Dell's second tally of the game. Kael Mouillierat took a shot and O'Dell tipped the puck past Tokarski and into the back of the net. This marked the first time in Tokarski's nine games with the team that the netminder had surrendered more than two goals. The IceCaps grabbed a 4-3 lead with only 26 seconds left in the third period as Josh Lunden put a loose puck past Tokarski.
The Bulldogs' next game is against the Crunch in Syracuse on Friday, March 22nd at 7:30 p.m. All 'Dogs games will be broadcast on Hamilton's Funny 820 (AM 820).
