BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - T he Binghamton Senators (37-19-1-5) scored three goals in the first period to upend the Norfolk Admirals (29-27-4-1), 5-1, on Friday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Admirals saw their four-game winning streak end and dropped to three points back of the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with 15 games remaining in the regular season.
Sami Vatanen scored the lone goal for Norfolk while goaltender Frederik Andersen (16-12-1) stopped 31 of 36 shots in the setback. Norfolk out-shot Binghamton, 43-36.

Norfolk took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 8:11 into the first period. With an assist on the goal, Admirals captain Nate Guenin extended his point and assist streak to six games (1g, 6a).
However, the remainder of the period belonged to Binghamton. Just 56 seconds after the Vatanen goal, Mark Stone scored a power play goal for the Senators to tie the game at 1-1. Just over two minutes later, Chris Wideman took a pass from Hugh Jessiman and scored to put Binghamton ahead, 2-1, at 11:19. Jean-Gabriel Pageau extended Binghamton's lead to 3-1 with a shot through a screen with only 29 seconds left in the first period.
The home team's lead grew to 4-1 at the 14:40 mark of the second stanza. Derek Grant's initial shot was stopped by Andersen. But Wacey Hamilton found the rebound in the crease and scored.
Michael Sdao closed out scoring with a power play goal at 16:43 for the 5-1 final score.
