St John's, N.L. - The Portland Pirates we shut out by the St. John's IceCaps a night after beating them by seven goals in a 1-0 decision on Saturday Night. IceCaps goalie Connor Hellebuyck was masterful between the pipes, stopping several strong shots from the Pirates and holding strong to record his fourth shutout of the season.

The first period wasn't very eventful and didn't see any scoring. The Pirates and IceCaps took four penalties a piece in the frame, but neither was able to convert on their power play opportunities.

Will O'Neill scored the lone goal of the contest midway through the second frame with a 7:45, assisted by teammates Brenden Kichton and Kyle MacKinnon. Mark Louis and St. John's' Blair Riley got into a scuffle at 11:33 and drew matching fighting majors.

The game closed out without any scoring in the third frame. The pirates pulled net minder Mike McKenna late in the period to gain the man advantage but were unable to convert. McKenna faced 26 shots on the evening, blocking all but one.

The Pirates continue on the road next weekend, playing a pair of games in Pennsylvania before returning home on Tuesday, February 17 to take on the Hartford Wolfpack. The game will be at 7:00 p.m. For tickets and more information, call 207-PIRATES.
