
IceCaps Release 2016-17 Season Schedule

St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - The St. John's IceCaps, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced the release of its 2016-17 regular season schedule today.
St. John's will kick off the 2016-17 season on Friday, October 14th at Hartford before heading to Albany the next day for a tilt with the Devils, followed by a trip to Providence on Sunday to face the Bruins. The IceCaps' home opener is Friday, October 28th versus the Rochester Americans.
The top prospects of the Toronto Maple Leafs (Toronto Marlies) will play the IceCaps 12 times this season, six of which will be at Mile One Centre. The first Marlies showdown is slated for November 5th and 6th. Additionally, for the first time since St. John's has been under the Montreal Canadiens affiliation, the Boston Bruins farm team, the Providence Bruins, will face the IceCaps over the course of four games this season.
Other points of interest include: o For the second-consecutive season the IceCaps conclude the regular season at Mile One Centre, this year in a two-game tilt with the Marlies; o Of the IceCaps' 38 home games, 28 will take place on weekends, including 14 on Saturdays, nine on Fridays and five on Sunday afternoons. Of the remaining 10 home dates, five will take place on Tuesdays and five on Wednesdays; o For the first-time in IceCaps history, the IceCaps will host back-to-back 4:00pm games on Saturday and Sunday - December 3rd and 4th versus the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, January 21st and 22nd versus the Albany Devils and March 25th and 16th versus the Hershey Bears; o The IceCaps will host North division foes 26 times; and, Atlantic division rivals 12 times; o The longest homestand for St. John's is eight games, which occurs three times, while the lengthiest stretch away from Mile One occurs over Christmas, with 10 games from Dec 14th- Jan 7th. The IceCaps' busiest month of the season is November, when the club will play 14 contests.
