IceCaps Announce Team Captains for 2014-15

St. John's IceCaps News Release


The St. John's IceCaps announced today that the club has named Jason Jaffray as team captain for the 2014-15 season and forward John Albert and defenceman Kris Fredheim as alternate captains.

Jaffray is the only captain in the club's four-year history. Albert served as an assistant last season, while Fredheim will wear an 'A' for the first time in his two-year stint with the club.

Jaffray, 33, played in 76 games with the IceCaps last season and led the team in assists (41) and points (59). He also collected 12 points in 20 playoff games. The Olds, AB native has played in 566 career AHL games, with 451 points (181G, 270A) and 668 penalty minutes. An original IceCap, Jaffray has also played 49 games in the NHL, collecting four goals, 11 points and 40 penalty minutes.

Albert, 25, played in 63 games with the IceCaps last season, recording 45 points (28G, 17A) and 20 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut with the Jets on Dec. 2/13 against the Rangers where he earned his first NHL goal. The Cleveland, OH native has played in nine career NHL games, all with Winnipeg. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the sixth round, 175th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Fredheim, 27, played in 48 games for the IceCaps in 2013-14, notching five points (1G, 4A) and 46 penalty minutes with a +8 rating. He also recorded one assist and six penalty minutes in 11 playoff contests. For his career, the Campbell River, BC native has played in 239 AHL games for 33 points (8G, 25A) and 119 penalty minutes, as well as three NHL games with the Minnesota Wild in 2011-12. He was originally drafted in the sixth round (185th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The IceCaps are set to begin the 2014-15 season Friday when they travel to Providence to take on the Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center (8:35 p.m. NT).
