Amerks Sign Forward Akim Aliu to PTO

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forward Akim Aliu to a professional tryout contract.

Aliu, 25, appeared in 23 AHL games with Hamilton and Hartford last season, recording five points (4+1) and 25 penalty minutes. He also appeared in two games with AIK of the Swedish Hockey League. A native of Okene, Nigeria, Aliu has played in 221 career AHL games with Rockford, Chicago, Peoria, Abbotsford, Hamilton and Hartford, collecting 67 points (40+27) and 353 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Aliu was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (56th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
