WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Tyler Murovich to a one-year American Hockey League contract and assigned him to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).

Murovich, 24, split last season between the Iowa Wild (AHL) and Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. In 60 games with Orlando, Murovich posted 18 goals, 12 assists and 64 penalty minutes, while notching one goal in 14 appearances with Iowa.

Now entering his fifth year as a pro, Murovich was acquired from Springfield by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during his rookie season in 2010-11. The Pittsburgh-native skated in two contests for the Penguins before going on to record 10 points (5G-5A) in 20 games for the Nailers.

In 64 career AHL games between Hamilton, Iowa, Springfield, Syracuse and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Murovich has registered eight goals, seven assists and 62 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 207 ECHL games, totaling 120 points (52G-68A) and 252 PIM.

The Penguins open their 2014-15 regular season with a pair of home games on Saturday night, Oct. 11, against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, against the Manchester Monarchs.
