HISTORICAL NUMBERS: The Pensacola Ice Pilots have enjoyed good historical numbers against the Checkers with an overall mark of 9-6-1.
TUESDAY GAMES: The Pensacola Ice Pilots will play a total of 12 Tuesday games with nine being at The Hangar and three away from home. Five of the games will take place against the Charlotte Checkers, while two will be against the South Carolina Stingrays and the Florida Everblades and single games against the Augusta Lynx and Gwinnett Gladiators.
WEEKLY RECAP: Team Character was on display over the weekend as despite dropping three games, the Ice Pilots played hard and never gave up in those contests.
Pensacola fell on opening night to the Texas Wildcatters 4-1 in front of a great crowd. Dwayne Hay had the lone Ice Pilots goal. On Saturday night in the return of hockey to the Beaumont, TX area, the Ice Pilots rallied from a 4-2 third-period deficit only to surrender two power-play goals in the final six minutes of the game and fall 6-4 to the Wildcatters. Dallas Steward had a pair for Pensacola, while Tyler Liebel and Colin Hemingway picked up singles.
On Sunday evening, the Columbia Inferno fired three second period goals and beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-2. Dan Sullivan and Colin Hemingway notched goals in the loss.
UPCOMING GAMES: The Hangar will be the site of a doubleheader this weekend between the Augusta Lynx and the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The two teams will face each other Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. This will mark the beginning of an interesting part of the schedule where the Ice Pilots and the cats will play each other a total of six times.
ICE PILOTS NOTES: Colin Hemingway and Mario Joly lead the Ice Pilots in goals with three each, while several players have three assists apiece. The Ice Pilots are 12th overall on the power play and ninth best on home ice. Hemingway, Joly as well as Derek and Jordan Krestanovich are team leaders in shots on goal. Hemingway has 27, while the Krestanovich brothers and Joly are at 18 and 17 respectively.
CHECK-MATE: The Charlotte Checkers are off to a great start with three wins in six games, including two on home ice. The Checkers have the ECHL's best power play overall and at home. Another good part of the Checkers play has been in penalty killing where they are ranked third away from home.
Mark Lee leads the team in scoring with nine points, while Dusty Jamieson and rookie Jakub Petruzalek each have eight. Jamieson leads the team with four power play goals. The Checkers are average over 37 shots on goal per game and Lee and Jamieson lead the way with 22 and 21 shots respectively.
