Gladiators Win ECHL Weekly Awards

The ECHL announced today that Gladiators rookie forward Colton Fretter has been named the InGlasCo. ECHL Player of the Week while rookie goaltender Dan Turple has been named the RBK Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the Week of October 23rd through October 29th helping the Gladiators go 3-0-0 and move into first place in the ECHL's South Divison.

Fretter tied a Gladiators team record with 4 goals in a 6-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on October 29th. He also had a goal in Gwinnett's 4-0 shutout win over Columbia on Saturday night after a two point (1g, 1a) night on Friday night at South Carolina in an 8-3 win over the Stingrays.

Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 8th round of the 2002 NHL draft and under contract to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, Fretter played four seasons at Michigan State University where he had 112 points off of 43 goals and 69 assists in 159 collegiate games.

Turple recorded his first professional win and first professional shutout on Saturday night in a 4-0 victory over the Columbia Inferno. Turple followed up his 24 save performance making 26 saves in a 6-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon. Turple is now 2-1-0 on the year with an .894 save percentage and a 3.01 goals against average.

Drafted by Atlanta in the 6th round of the 2004 NHL Draft and under contract to the Thrashers, Turple posted a 40-15-2 record last season for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League in his final junior hockey season. He collected 7 shutouts for Kitchener last year while posting a 2.25 goals against average and a .937 save percentage in 57 games.
