Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today a trade with the Augusta Lynx for Defenseman Phil Cole. The Salmon Kings traded future considerations for the 24-year-old.

The 6-foot-4, 197-lb defenseman was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round (#125 overall) in the 2000 NHL entry draft. During that time, Cole was a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL). In five seasons with the Hurricanes, the native of Winnipeg, MB earned 47 points and 397 penalty minutes in 198 games. He finished the 2001-02 season with the Vancouver Giants and Medicine Hat Tigers.

"We continue to strengthen our backline with the addition of Phil," said Dan Belisle, Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "He is a big, physical player who has substantial pro experience, and can support our goaltenders and defensive system."

From 2002 to 2006, Cole shared time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Albany River Rats and the Philadelphia Phantoms and the ECHL with the Columbus Cottonmouths, Cincinnati Cyclones, and the Lynx. Last season he earned 12 points and 91 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Lynx. Cole participated in the Manitoba Moose camp earlier this month.
