Ice Flyers Name December Players of the Month

It was a busy December for the Pensacola Ice Flyers, but it was a month that saw the team hit a stride that they are counting on sustaining throughout the remaining months of the 2011-2012 season. The contributions of team captain and player/assistant coach Dan Buccella and goaltender Steve Christie are two very good reasons behind the Ice Flyers' recent success. Buccella has been named the Select Physical Therapy's Offensive Player of the Month and Christie the Defensive Players of the Month for December.

Buccella has been a solid contributor to the Ice Flyers line up in every way: scoring, setting up plays, solid defensive zone coverage and dropping the gloves when needed. He currently sits atop of the Ice Flyers scoring leaders with 20 points in 21 games (10 G, 10 A) and tied for 19th among all scorers in the SPHL. Buccella scored 5 goals and 5 assists in December and had a +4 rating.

Christie put up excellent numbers in goal for the Ice Flyers. During this past month, he had a record of 8-2, with a 2.29 GAA and a .923 SV%. He also recorded his 2nd shutout of the season in December. Christie was also just named the SPHL Player of the Month, and was the SPHL Player of the Week for December 12-18.

Pensacola hosts Louisiana on tonight at 7:05 PM, head to Huntsville for the first time this season on Friday, and then return home to face Knoxville on Saturday at 7:05 PM.
