Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Pensacola, Fl -The Pensacola Ice Flyers put a stop to the streaking Cottonmouths and grabbed a share of the top spot in the SPHL with an exciting 4-3 victory in front of the largest crowd this year at The Hangar.
Pensacola got started quickly when Mark Hinz found the back of the net less than two minutes into the game off passes from Brett Parker and Tyler Barr. The play would settle down tremendously and Pensacola would wait until the beginning of the 2nd period to score their next goal. That next goal, scored by Tyler Barr and assisted by Brett Parker and Erik Stoyanovich, came, again, less than two minutes into the 2nd period. Columbus would strike back, however, and scored two goals from Bowles and Kinnunen, less than three minutes apart. Those goals put Columbus well in position to take control of the game and sent the Ice Flyers into the locker room looking for answers as they lost the lead.
Pensacola would show the same heart they showed earlier this week with their come from behind victory on Monday, however, and again struck first when Dan Erhman and Tanner Shultz connected with Brett Liscomb for a goal with just over sixteen minutes to play in the 3rd period. Just after the half way mark, Brett Parker would get his third assist of the night when he found Erik Stoyanovich with a beautiful pass. Down, but not out, Columbus would notch one more with just over five minutes to play, but it would be too little too late as they fell 4-3 in regulation.
Pensacola scored on 25% of their Power Plays on the evening and held the Cottonmouths to just one Power Play goal on six attempts. Ryan Scott notched his tenth win of the season while stopping 38 of the 41 shots fired his way.
Pensacola will take a short break from home ice and next return to The Hangar on January 7th, for "Give From Your Heart Night". The team will be working with the Manna Food Bank to restock their barren shelves after a busy holiday season. Bring a canned item for a ticket discount and chance to win a replica jersey.
