RiverHawks Win Third in a Row in Mississippi

December 30, 2010 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks played a picture-perfect road game stifling the high-powered Mississippi Surge 2-1 Thursday night in Biloxi, MS. RiverHawks goaltender Jon Olthuis was the star of the show picking up his third straight victory and stopping 33 shots in the process.

The win pushes the RiverHawks one game above the .500 level with a record of 13-12, good for four in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The RiverHawks got all the scoring they needed in the first period. First it was Lucas Labelle streaking in all alone and scoring past Surge goaltender Dan Earles. Then with just 26 seconds left in the first period Neil Graham stuffed home a loose puck that sat in the goal crease for his team-leading 14th goal of the season.

The Surge were able to narrow the deficit to just one goal when Matt Zultek fired the only shot that beat Olthuis on the night, his 19th of the campaign, extending his goal scoring streak to five games. That would be all the scoring on the night, as the RiverHawks would shut the door on a Surge attack which ranks second in the SPHL in goals scored.

The RiverHawks owned the league's second best penalty killing unit headed into the game, and they were on full-display in this game killing all five Surge power play opportunities.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, December 31st and Saturday, January 1st. On the 31st fans can get their New Year's Eve festivities started with Pucks, Bucks, and Brews Night featuring dollar drafts.
