Ice Flyers Go to OT Again, Fall 4-3 this Time

PENSACOLA, FL - For the second straight night, the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Knoxville Ice Bears headed to overtime tied at three but unlike last night, the Ice Flyers came out on the wrong end of the 4-3 final score.

Joe Caveney opened the scoring with 53 seconds left in the first after the Ice Flyers fired a flurry on shots on Knoxville's Bryan Hince. Matt Smyth and Paul Rodrigues got the assists on the tally.

The Ice Flyers took the 2-0 lead 2:08 into the second period when a shot from Donnie Harris found its way behind Hince. Ryan Salvis and Podge Turnbull got the assists on Harris' goal. A little over six minutes later, the Ice Bears' Jeremy Klaver cut the Flyers' lead down to 2-1 with a power play goal.

Thing began to get interesting when 14 seconds after Klaver's goal, Knoxville's David Segal dragged Paul Rodrigues into a fight he wanted no part of at all. Knoxville tied the game up at two with 5:18 remaining in the second when Cody Dion but it didn't last long. The 2-2 tie lasted all of 50 seconds before Joe Caveney picked up his second goal of the game with the assists going to Harry Radovich and Rodrigues.

The score line remained 3-2 in the Ice Flyers' favor until Knoxville's Cody Dion tallied his second goal of the time to tie it with just 52.9 seconds left in the game. Another Ice Bear scored his second goal of the game in overtime as Jeremy Klaver scored the game winner for Knoxville 1:17 into the extra period.

Johnny Griggs 29 of 33 shots en route to the overtime loss and moved his season record to 1-1-1.

The Ice Flyers are back in action tomorrow night when they face off against the Huntsville Havoc at the Propst Arena of the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama at 5:00 Central Time.
