Louisiana IceGators News Release

Biloxi, Miss. - What a difference 24 hours makes.

One night after giving up a hat trick and seven goals to the Mississippi Surge, the Louisiana IceGators gained revenge against their rival, picking up a 7-5 win Saturday night in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Matt Robertson led the IceGators by picking up a hat trick. Chris Wilson picked up five points during the game - one goal and four assists - while Jeremy Boyer contributed three assists.

The IceGators return to action next Friday night when they travel to Indiana to take on the Bloomington Thunder.

"We played a much better 60 minutes tonight," said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. "I thought we executed much better and finished on our chances tonight. The guys were resilient and positive even when we were down 1-0 and 2-1, and they kept their composure in the third period."

The IceGators kept firm control of the lead most of the game.

Mike Looby gave the Surge a 1-0 lead 69 seconds into the contest when he scored off assists from Reid Edmondson and Brian Elser. The IceGators tied the game thanks to a Reid MacLeod goal at the 6:41 mark of the frame. The Surge regained the lead with 7:07 left in the period when Mitch Bruijsten picked up an unassisted goal.

It was the last lead the Surge would have during the game.

Jake Trask and Jason Cohen both scored in the final six minutes of the first period to give the IceGators a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

Louisiana and Mississippi alternated goals in the second period. Kyle Fletcher picked up a power play goal 26 seconds into the period to tie the game. Nine minutes later, Matt Robertson picked up his first goal off assists from Wilson and Tyler Lyon. Less than a minute later, the Surge answered with a Matt Ridley goal to make it a 4-4 game. The IceGators took a 5-4 lead with 5:04 left in the period when Robertson scored his second goal of the night on a power play.

Robertson completed his hat trick two minutes into the third period off assists from Boyer and Wilson. Wilson himself score a goal at the 4:46 mark of the third to give Louisiana a 7-4 lead. The Surge did not go quietly, as Bruijsten scored his second goal of the night with 4:28 left in the game.

"This was a huge win to finish off a six-game stretch over the last nine nights," Kaminski said. "The guys showed a lot of character and pride in winning this game. Now, we're going to get a much needed couple of days off to recharge the batteries before another road trip."
