Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers and Huntsville Havoc met for the first time on Friday night following the three-man trade that landed Nick Lazorko in Pensacola. It was a night that belonged to the last place team as the Havoc defeated the Ice Flyers with a final score of 6-1.
Huntsville was the first on the board only 3:36 into the first period as Stuart Stefan found the back of the net from Ray Ortiz and Jarred Mohr. Despite Pensacola's 15 shots on net, Kevin Genoe held strong between the pipes and sent the Ice Flyers into the locker room scoreless after one.
At the 4:34 mark of the second, Curtis Megginson found himself serving two minutes for slashing. At the very last second of the power play, Michael Budd evened the score at 6:34 from Nick McParland to make it 1-1. However, Megginson made up for his penalty when he put the Havoc back in the lead at the 13:05 mark. It wasn't that long after that Mark Anthoine, who was a part of the Lazorko trade, scored his first goal with Huntsville to make it a 3-1 game.
The Havoc continued to add to their lead with a goal from Corey Bellamy at the 4:14 mark and two goals from Drew Akins at 6:55 and 8:38 of the third period to make it a 6-1 game. Akins was also a former Ice Flyer involved in the trade for Lazorko. The score would hold to the end of regulation and the Havoc earned their 4th win of the season.
Pensacola outshot Huntsville 37 to 32. Ice Flyers' Max Strang takes his 2nd regulation loss of the season. At the other end, Genoe turned away 36 shots for his third win.
Both teams meet again at the same time, same place tomorrow night. You can watch all the action live at Beef O Brady's in downtown Pensacola or at their 9 mile road location. All away games are available on SPHLLive.com [http://www.sphllive.com] as well.
