Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The RiverKings jumped out to a quick lead on Louisiana for the third time in five matches between the teams this season. Just 2:22 into the first Paul Ciarelli set up a forecheck in the right corner. Sean Jones eventually took over and skated behind the net before going to the left circle and getting a shot on goal. Linden Bahm followed up on the rebound and jammed it in for his first pro goal and a 1-0 lead. The IceGators pulled even a few minutes later as Jason Cohen took a wrist shot from the point on a faceoff win by Adam Stuart to tie the game 5:02 into the first.

Mississippi grabbed their second one-goal lead in the second period. The RiverKings took the puck in the offensive zone and Matt Harrington and Matt Whitehead worked the puck free to the right circle. Leo Thomas was there to spin a shot on goal which trickled through Marco De Filippo at 8:41 to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead. Just a few minutes later the IceGators again tied the game while on a 5-on-3 power play. Jake Hauswirth sent a pass across the crease for Shawn Skelly, which fired it past Peter Di Salvo to tie the game heading into the third.

Benjamin Rubin gave the IceGators their first lead early in the third period. While on the power play Chris Wilson created a two-on-one and moved past a the defender before centering to Rubin, who slammed it in for a 3-2 lead at 2:51. That held up until Matt Harrington pulled the RiverKings even with a power-play goal at 10:11. He got the puck at the bottom of the left circle and sent a shot towards the net which squirted through De Filippo.

The game would remain tied at three through the rest of the third period and overtime before the RiverKings won it in a shootout. Harrington scored the only shootout goal for the second straight game and Di Salvo made that stand with five difficult saves to get the win. It's the first time this season the RiverKings have won back-to-back games.

The RiverKings are back home Saturday, Jan. 3 for Elvis Night. The RiverKings will wear special Elvis jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the RiverKings ReachOut Fund. There will also be performances by the Ice Sisters during the game and kids in costume get in for free.
