Louisiana IceGators News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.--The Christmas blues continue for the Louisiana IceGators.

Despite leading 3-2 midway through the third period, the IceGators dropped their second straight decision Friday night, losing 4-3 to the Mississippi RiverKings in a shootout. Matt Harrington scored both the game-tying goal and the game-winner.

The IceGators and the RiverKings will face off again Saturday night in the 7:05 p.m. in the Lafayette Cajundome.

"This was an all-around tough loss for us," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "We didn't play through our systems and our work ethic wasn't there. Once again, I thought we had glimpses of great play, but, unfortunately, we went right back to our bad habits."

The two teams traded goals all night.

Linden Bahm put Mississippi ahead 1-0 at the 2:22 mark of the first period, only to have Jason Cohen tied the game three minutes later.

Leo Thomas put the RiverKings back on top at the 8:41 mark of the second period, but Shawn Skelly knotted the score two minutes later with a power play goal.

Another power play goal from Benjamin Rubin at the 2:51 mark of the third period gave the IceGators their only lead of the night. That lead lasted a little more than seven minutes, as Harrington scored a power play goal at the 10:11 mark to tie the game at 3-3.

Harrington scored the only goal of the shootout, putting the puck past IceGator goalie Marco De Filippo in the second round of penalty shots.

Omicioli was brief when describing what the IceGators need to do to rebound in Saturday's rematch.

"We have to be better (Saturday) night," Omicioli said. "We need to pick up the two points at home."
