Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL. (November 17, 2013) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers faced off against their rivals the Mississippi Surge for the second time in three days and, even though the Ice Flyers controlled play for much of the game, the Surge came out with the 2-1 win.

The Ice Flyers got on the scoreboard first as Joe Caveney scored his 11th goal of the season when he beat Surge goalie Mathieu Dugas. His linemates, Paul Rodrigues and Mitchell Good, got the assists on the tally that came exactly five minutes into the game.

The Ice Flyers dominated the second period, out shooting the Surge 17-10, but Mississippi connected on two of those 10 shots as Kyle Kudroch and Chapen LeBlond gave the Mississippi Surge a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The 2-1 lead stood up through the third period despite the Ice Flyers tripling up on the Surge in shots during the frame with 18 while Mississippi only had six.

Johnny Griggs stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced as he took the loss. Joe Caveney was named the third star of the night.

The Ice Flyers' next game will be Thursday as the team makes their first appearance in Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center. The Peoria Rivermen and Ice Flyers will play three games in three nights with puck drop scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Central each night.
