
Dugas Saves 50, Surge Leave Pensacola with a 2-1 Victory

Mississippi Surge relied on the sparkling performance of Mathieu Dugas in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
Mississippi Surge was led by Chapen LeBlond, who racked up one goal. LeBlond scored 8:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge.
The Surge penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pensacola power plays. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as LeBlond, Kyle Kudroch and Mitch Bruijsten took 12 of the team's 23 shots. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Matt Gordon, who had one. Pensacola's offense operated below it season average. The Ice Flyers put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. With 51 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 34.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Ice Flyers were led by Joe Caveney, who scored the team's only goal. Caveney scored 5:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Paul Rodrigues picked up the assist.
Mathieu Dugas made 50 saves for Mississippi Surge on 51 shots. Mississippi Surge incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Pensacola's John Griggs stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Ice Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
Coach Jeff Bes spoke about the win shortly after the game, "Our team played hard tonight and Mathieu Dugas played a trememndous game for us in net. Without the way he played, the game tonight could very easily been a differemt game. He was a star tonight"
