Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers looked to continue their home ice success on Valentine's Day as they battled their I-10 rival, the Mississippi Surge. The Ice Flyers improved their league-leading record to 26-13-3 with 6-2 win.

The first period ended with neither team scoring a goal despite the Ice Flyers outshooting the Surge 17-9. But the second started in a completely different way as the Ice Flyers' Adam Pawlick scored just 40 seconds into the middle frame. That was followed by John Dunbar's first of two goals on the night only 56 seconds later. The Surge pulled to within one near the end of the second when Joe Tolles scored on the powerplay.

The Ice Flyers found their stride in the final frame; scoring four goals on 11 shots, while the Surge added another powerplay marker. Dunbar scored his second goal of the game 3:26 into the third. Jarkko Leppanen blasted a shot past Ice Flyers' netminder Peter Di Salvo on the powerplay a little over three minutes later.

Barely over a minute after the Surge made it 3-2, Malcolm Lyles scored on the powerplay for the Ice Flyers to make it 4-2. Joe Caveney returned to the lineup tonight from Pensacola after a brief stint with Cincinnati of the ECHL and continued his production, scoring a goal just under five minutes remaining after assisting on Lyles' goal.

Pawlick would bury his second of the night as well with 1:17 remaining in the game to seal the game for the Ice Flyers 6-2.

Di Salvo stopped 35 shots of the 37 he faced while Dan Clarke of the Surge saw 43 shots and saved 37 of them.

The Ice Flyers continue their three-game home weekend Saturday night as they host their annual Race Night and Wiener Dog Race on Ice. Call the Ice Flyers' office at 850-466-3111 to register a wiener dog for the race. Come and get $2 hot dogs up until the start of the second period. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.
