Columbus Boosted by Loewen's Play in Net, Beats Knoxville 4-1

The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the sparkling performance of Andrew Loewen in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Knoxville's power play was ineffective against Columbus' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Cottonmouths were led by Jordan Draper, who grabbed one goal. Draper scored on the power play 4:50 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Columbus. Columbus had taken the advantage when the Ice Bears' Jeremy Klaver got sent off for tripping. Sam Bowles assisted on the tally.

The Cottonmouths put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.5 they average per game.

Columbus also got points from Neilsson Arcibal, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Preston Shupe, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Matt Gingera also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tory Allan, who had one.

By firing 27 shots on goal, Knoxville exceeded the 23.1 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ice Bears were led by Berkley Scott, who scored the team's only goal. Scott scored on the power play 4:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Knoxville had gotten the advantage when Columbus' Will Aide was sent off for charging.

Loewen rejected 26 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Ice Bears' Bryan Hince stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Knoxville ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
