Ice Flyers Announce 2016 Protected List

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The 2016 Southern Professional Hockey League President's Cup Champions, the Pensacola Ice Flyers submitted their protected list to the SPHL office prior to today's 3 p.m. Eastern Time deadline.

Players on the listed were protected from today's expansion draft for the Evansville Thunderbolts and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. Protecting players also gives the Ice Flyers the first opportunity to negotiate a contract for the 2016-17 season. Included on the 13 player list are seven forwards, four defensemen, and two goalies:

F, Charlie Adams;

F, Corey Banfield;

F, Stephen Buco;

F, Joe Caveney;

F, Josh Cousineau;

F, Paul Rodrigues;

F, Brandon Zurn;

D, Brandon Blair;

D, Anthony Calabrese;

D, Jeremy Gates;

D, Mike Krieg;

G, John McLean;

G, Matt Zenzola.

The Ice Flyers begin the 2016-17 season, and their defense of the President's Cup, with their third Championship Celebration Night in four years on Friday, October 21, at 7:05 p.m. The full schedule with opponents will be released at a future date.
