Ice Dogs' Sokolsky Named WCHL's Outstanding Defenseman

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The West Coast Hockey League today announced that Long Beach Ice Dogs defenseman Jamie Sokolsky has been named WCHL Outstanding Defenseman by the WCHL head coaches, general managers, and members of the media. Sokolsky is the first Ice Dogs member to earn the League's honor.

The Toronto, Ontario native is in his first season with the Ice Dogs after playing four seasons in the East Coast Hockey League. Sokolsky shares the defenseman scoring lead of 52 points with Fresno's Cory Murphy. His 14 goals places him second (tied) among league defensemen, and third in assists with 38. Sokolsky has scored six power-play goals, positioning him fourth (tied) in the league. In 65 games played this season, he also ranks fourth among WCHL defensemen with a +20 plus/minus rating.

Sokolsky, 25, was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. After five seasons of junior hockey, he joined the New Orleans Brass of the ECHL in 1997-98. He competed for three teams in the ECHL over a four-year period where he recorded 54 goals and 107 assists in 252 games.

Sokolsky was also named to the 2001-02 All-WCHL First Team on April 1, 2002.
