Netminder to receive Goaltender, CCM/ECHL Rookie of the Year Awards Thursday
Lafayette, LA - The Louisiana IceGators will present 20-year-old goaltender Frederic Cloutier with a pair of trophies at a 2 p.m. press conference tomorrow at the Cajundome. The press conference will take place in Suite 22 of the Cajundome, located on the second level to the left of the IceGators office. All media are encouraged to attend, and excellent photo opportunities will be available.
Cloutier will be given the John A. Daley Memorial Trophy for the CCM/ECHL Rookie of the Year Award, plus he will receive the league's Goaltender of the Year Trophy. Cloutier also made the All-Rookie Team and was an All-ECHL First-Team selection this season.
Cloutier, in his first season out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, was 28-5-3 with seven shutouts, a 1.84 goals against average and a .945 save percentage this season. He broke the ECHL record for lowest goals against average (1.91 by Curtis Sanford of Peoria in 2000-01) and the ECHL record for save percentage (.933 by Columbus' Jeff Salajko in 1997-98). He tied the ECHL record for most shutouts (seven by Richmond's Maxime Gingras in 1998-99 and Jacksons David Brumby in 1999-2000). He was selected by ECHL coaches to be the starting goaltender for the Southern Conference in the 2002 Sovereign Bank/ECHL All-Star Game on January 22 in Trenton, N.J., and was the ECHL Goalie of the Month for November.
Cloutier is the first-ever IceGator to win the CCM/ECHL Rookie of the Year Award, and the second IceGator to win Goaltender of the Year, joining Marc Delorme (1996-97).
Louisiana plays host to Jackson tonight at 7:05 in Game 1 of the 2002 Kelly Cup Playoffs Southwest Division Semifinals. The Bandits advanced to tonight's game with a 3-1 win over New Orleans last night in a Wild Card game.
The IceGators will host Game 2 of the series Friday at 7:35 p.m., and then the action shifts to Jackson on Sunday for a 2 p.m. start. Louisiana will return home for Games 4 and 5, if necessary, hosting Game 4 Monday at 7:05 p.m. and Game 5 Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
