The Spokane Chiefs dropped a 7-3 decision to the Kootenay Ice on the final Sunday night home game of the season. With the win, Kootenay has taken a 3-2 lead in the season series with two games remaining between the two.
Kootenay scored first at 7:41, but hte CHiefs tied it up with an Adam Hobson goal at 9:33. Brad Schell's pass into the Kootenay zone pulled Ice goaltender Taylor Dakers out of the net and allowed Jakub Langhammer to tip it from behind the cage to Hobson in front for his fourth goal of the year.
Two power play goals by Kootenay in the first gave them a 3-1 lead, but the Chiefs pulled within one at 18:02 when Jeff Lynch followed up on a rebound. Scott Lynch and Adam Hobson had the assists.
Two goals in each the second and third periods pulled Kootenay away from the Chiefs before Jakub Langhammer's pretty goal from the right wing gave Spokane their third of the night. Spokane was 1-2 on the power play and killed six of nine penalties.
Following the game fans had the opportunity to Skate with the Chiefs for the only time this season. Kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Spokane County ran the show with a number of them serving as radio broadcaster, public address announcer, National Anthem singer and stick boys. Kids day and Skate with the Chiefs night were presented by KAYU TV 28 and Spirit 101.9.
Spokane will travel to Kelowna on Wednesday night to take on the Rockets. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 790 the Fan with the puck dropping at 7:00.
Spokane will return home to the Spokane Arena for their first of seven in a row next Friday when they host the Vancouver Giants on NAPA $5 Friday. Fans are encouraged to visit any participating NAPA Auto Parts Store and pick up a voucher good for a $5 ticket to Friday's game. The vouchers must be redeemed the day of the game at the Spokane Chiefs ticket office.
