Regina Pats News Release
The Regina Pats (15-28-4-3) entertain the Swift Current Broncos (30-15-6) tonight at 6:00 in the Agridome. It's the third meeting of the year between the two teams with the Broncos winning the previous two encounters by scores of 5-0 and 5-2. Tonight is game #2 of a four-game homestand for Regina. They opened it Friday with a 6-2 loss to Calgary in front of 4,770 Pats fans. Jon Bubnick and Dan Waschuck scored in a losing cause while Dustin Slade made 21 saves in goal.
PATS NOTES: The Pats are winless in eight games on home-ice and are 9-9-2-1 in the Agridome. They are 1-7-2 in their past 10 games, and 9-7-0-2 versus the Central Division. Dan Waschuk has taken over the team's scoring lead (17-16-33) followed by Rick Rypien (14-18-32), Jon Bubnick (13-17-30) and Lance Morrison (10-20-30). Rypien continues to be the Pats' PM leader with 138. The Pats are the 5th-most penalized team in the WHL.
BRONCOS NOTES: Swift Current is 18-4-3 on the road and 7-2-1 in their past 10. They fell 3-1 to Red Deer last night in Swift Current with Jeremy Williams scoring the lone Broncos' goal, his 40th. Blake Grenier faced 21 Rebels' shots. Tyler Redenbach is their leading scorer (23-58-81) followed by Williams (40-38-78) and Alex Leavitt (23-33-56). Mat Trojovsky is their PM leader with 152 and Williams is their +/- leader at +21. The Broncos' next game is Friday when they host Brandon.
QUOTABLE: "We have to make sure we're aware of their top line (Williams, Redenbach and Heintz) tonight. I think they had seven points between them the last time we played. We may have outshot the Broncos, but they made the most of their opportunities. We didn't give up a lot of what I call "10-bell" chances to them, but they scored on great shots." - Pats' coach Bob Lowes.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The Pats have the WHL's 15th-ranked powerplay (14.6%) and 19th penalty-kill (77.1%).... The Broncos have the 9th PP (17.9%) and 9th PK (82.2%).
LAST NIGHT IN THE 'DUB: Kamloops 4-Medicine Hat 3, Kelowna 6-Portland 0, Kootenay 2-Lethbridge 1, Moose Jaw 4-Saskatoon 1, PA 5-Spokane 3, Vancouver 3-Seattle 2 OT, Brandon 3-Calgary 2 OT, Everett 3-PG 0, Red Deer 3-Swift Current 1.
TONIGHT IN THE WHL: Calgary at Moose Jaw, Kootenay at Spokane, Vancouver at Seattle, PA at Tri-City.
NEXT UP: The Pats host Josh Harding and the Brandon Wheat Kings Wednesday night at 7 pm. Catch 620 CKRM's broadcast of the game beginning with the Regina Co-op Gas Bars Pats GameNight Pregame show at 6:35.
