Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - (December 09, 2013) The Knoxville Ice Bears' head coach Mike Craigen announced today that the team has traded Nate Peterson to the Pensacola Ice Flyers for future considerations.
Peterson is a graduate of Saint Mary's University where he played four years and was named Capitan his senior year. He accumulated 19 points (6G - 13A) in 87 games in his college career. He went onto play professionally for the Knoxville Ice Bears and signed as a free agent after earning a roster spot out of training camp for the 2012-2013 season.
Peterson played 55 games in the 2012-2013 season and tallied 12 (4G-8A) as a rookie, registering a +2 and played four games and adding 1 assist in the playoffs.
The 2013-2014 season was an opportunity to build upon a successful rookie campaign but with an abundance of rostered defenseman playing significantly, ice time was hard to find. In 12 games played, Peterson registered 2 assists.
"It's never an easy decision to say goodbye to a player who has been with your organization for a few years and this was no exception. Thankfully we are able to send Nate to another wonderful SPHL organization to continue his career. Petey has been nothing but a great teammate and respected individual in his time here and we certainly wish him nothing but the best," said head coach Mike Craigen.
The Knoxville Ice Bears travel to Columbus on Friday, December 13 to take on the Cottonmouths and on Saturday, December 14, travel to play the Fayetteville FireAntz. Both games will be available on WKVL 850 AM. The team will return to home ice on Friday, Dec 20th for Give-A-Way Night and Saturday, Dec 21st for the annual Baby Derby presented by Food City.
