Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - (January 17, 2015) The Knoxville Ice Bears have defeated the Pensacola Flyers by a score of 4-2, taking the weekend series and the lead in the SPHL standings in front of a gregarious crowd of 4,787 fans.
The first period of play started off physical and looked very similar to the conclusion of the Pensacola game the night prior when there was over 38 regulated minutes without a goal. Despite two power play opportunities for Knoxville and one for Pensacola, neither team was able to capitalize and turn the man advantage into points leading to a scoreless first period.
At the 4:48 mark into the second period, Pensacola found the net first with a shot by Nick McParland, but the Ice Flyers did not maintain the lead for long. Knoxville answered and scored a 28 seconds later, to tie the game up when Eric Satim placed the puck in the net for the 13th time this season with assists from Francis Drolet and Peter Neal.
Robbie Donahoe put the Ice Bears back on top with a simple shot at net with an assist by Francis Drolet, giving the Ice Bears a one goal lead going into the third period.
Pensacola tied the game 1:09 into the final period of play, when Brett Lutes deflected the puck past Knoxville goalie, Braely Torris. Knoxville answered with a power play goal by Robbie Donahoe and soon after, a breakaway goal by Frankie Drolet making the Ice Bears lead 4-2.
With less than five minutes remaining, Pensacola sent a message that they had not given up when they scored a power play goal, off of a Robbie Donahoe interference call. However it wasn't enough for the Ice Flyers as they were held the final four minutes of the game.
The Ice Bears return to action on Thursday, Jan 22nd for another $1000 Thursday. To order tickets call 865-656-4444 or visit www.knoxvilleicebears.com.
