Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
The game between the Columbus Cottonmouths and the Huntsville Havoc was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Columbus emerged with a 5-3 win.
The Cottonmouths gained the winning advantage on a goal by Craig Simchuk 18:12 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.
Columbus got the win thanks to a great game by Levi Lind, who had one goal and two assists. Lind scored 19:26 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Columbus.
In the losing effort, Huntsville was led by Drew Akins, who registered two goals. Akins scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. The Havoc earned a power play opportunity when Louis Belisle was put in the box for slashing. Justin Cseter picked up the assist. Akins' next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Huntsville with 19:09 left in the second period. Frank Schumacher provided the assist.
The Cottonmouths outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Columbus averages 2.9 goals per contest. The Cottonmouths' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.0 shots per game they average.
Columbus also got points from Neilsson Arcibal, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Bryce Williamson, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Columbus received assists from Patrick McCadden, who had one and Nick Curry, who had two.
Huntsville put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.5 it averages per game.
Huntsville additionally got points from Lucas Van Natter, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Huntsville came via Stuart Stefan, Luke Greiner, and Matt Viola, who each chipped in one.
Andrew Loewen made 26 saves for Columbus on 29 shots. The Cottonmouths totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Havoc's Jesse Kallechy stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Huntsville totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
