
RiverKings Erase 3-0 Deficit, Win 6-5 in OT

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings (15-14-2) rallied from a three-goal deficit, scoring three times in the third, before beating the Fayetteville FireAntz (12-11-6), 6-5 in overtime, Saturday night at the Landers Center. The RiverKings have won three straight games and move two point ahead of the FireAntz in the standings.
The FireAntz capitalized on the opportunities in the first to open a 3-0 lead. Derek Elliott started the scoring 3:17 into the period with a slap shot from the red line. Later in the period Jan Safar took a shot from the blue line 8:35 into the first. It was stopped by Peter DiSalvo, but Corey Tamblyn potted the rebound for a 2-0 lead. With a minute left to play, Elliott added his second goal of the night on a delayed penalty to make it 3-0 after the first period. The RiverKings made a goalie swap after that as Adam Courchaine replaced Di Salvo.
The RiverKings grabbed momentum in the second. They had a goal waved off for goalie interference, but a few minutes after that Linden Bahm put the RiverKings on the board on a rebound in the crease with assists from Leo Thomas and Matt Whitehead. Later in the period John Clelow earned a penalty shot after getting behind the defense on a breakaway. On the penalty, Clewlow fanned on a shot, keeping it 3-1 FireAntz. After that the RiverKings converted on a power play when Ryan Marcuz chipped in a puck near the crease to pull the RiverKings within one. Fayetteville went back up by two at 16:42 of the second period when Kyle McNeil wristed a shot from the right circle.
The RiverKings power play stayed hot in the third period and helped sparked a three-goal rally. Bahm put his second goal of the night in the net on a deflection from the slot on a pass from from Leo Thomas. Thomas then tied the game at 13:16 of the third, with assists from Whithead and Bahm. Two minutes later the RiverKings would take the lead as Justin Gvora, fresh out of the penalty box, went in on a breakaway and scored five hole. The lead was short lived as Hertz would tie the game at five with a right circle shot, eventually forcing overtime.
In the extra period the RiverKings would get a 4-on-3 power play and Thomas would get free at the right circle to score the game-winner. Whitehead passed to Paulazzo, who quickly passed through his legs to Thomas for the easy finished 2:27 into overtime.
