Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Rob Darrar scored the eventual game-winning goal with 2:18 remaining in the third period and the Knoxville Ice Bears fell to the Huntsville Havoc 5-3 Friday night at the Civic Coliseum.
The Ice Bears (26-6-3) have dropped three of their past four.
Jason Price scored a shorthanded goal to put Knoxville ahead at 6:51 of the first. Rob Darrar lost his footing in the Knoxville zone and Jared Nash stole the puck and carried it up the right wing on the penalty kill. Nash's shot from the right side bounced off Zane Steeves' pad and the rebound came out to Price at the left circle, where he put it back on net.
Sy Nutkevitch tied the game less than two minutes later with a quick shot from the right side of the crease. Tyler Piacentini fed him the puck from the left end line and the one-timer beat Evan Moyse.
Price put Knoxville back in front at 17:43 when he cleaned up another rebound for his second goal of the night. Dino Balsamo carried the puck into the high slot and his wrist shot deflected to the left side of the crease where Price pushed it back with a backhand.
Huntsville took the lead with the only two goals of the second period. Kyle Clarke intercepted a pass at his own blue line and raced down on a breakaway before slipping the puck between Moyse's pads at 10:10 to tie the game. The Havoc moved in front when Mathieu Newcomb punched in a rebound less than three minutes later.
Brady Fleurent tied the game for Knoxville early in the third with a power play goal at 1:32. Razmuz Waxin-Engback pushed the puck up the right circle and Fleurent skated in front of the crease and beat Steeves for his fourth of the season.
Jacob Barber scored an empty net goal with ten seconds left to round out the scoring. Moyse finished with 13 stops for Knoxville. Steeves made 31 saves for the Havoc.
Knoxville will finish the weekend in Virginia as the Ice Bears face Roanoke at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night.
