Ice Bears Capture 9 of 10 Points for the Week

Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Bloomington Thunder in two of the three games earlier this week. Tonight the Ice Bears hosted the Bloomington for the first time on home ice. A crowd of 4,014 Ice Bears fans cheered as the home team delivered a shutout, 5-0.

Knoxville Captain, David Segal, dropped his gloves with Bloomington's Harry Mahesh 6:24 into the first period. Both players received 7 penalty minutes, and the teams remained at full strength. The Ice Bears were first to skate a power play at 8:06, but didn't find the net. Berkley Scott and Segal both served 2 minute penalties giving the Thunder power play opportunity, but the game remained scoreless going into the first intermission.

Knoxville scored their first goal midway into the second period. Eric Satim backhanded the puck off a rebound and sent it past Bloomington goalie, Brenton Lindoff. First and second assist were credited to Francis Drolet and Jon Higgins.

One minute after the goal, Knoxville was put on the power play when Kyle Watson was penalized for tripping. Just as Watson returned to ice, Segal pushed the puck in to bring Knoxville to a 2-0 lead going into the final period. The goal was assisted by Jason Price and Ben Souders.

After a scuffle 9:25 into the third, Souders and Bloomington's Brandon Hew were given 2 minute penalties. Segal was given 2 minutes for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct, leaving Bloomington on the power play. The Thunder's Tyler Noseworthy followed to the penalty box putting the Ice Bears on the power play advantage.

Knoxville's Jon Higgins hit the net on the power play to boost the Ice Bears' lead to 3-0 at 12:47. Price and Brady Vandenberk were first and second assist. After a timeout, the Thunder pulled their goalie in a final attempt to light the scoreboard.

Price was first to hit the empty net with 54.2 seconds remaining in the period, notching his first season goal. Price had one goal and two assists for the game. Mark Van Vliet and Vandenberk assisted the goal bringing the Ice Bears up 4-0.

Brad Pawlowski was next to hit the empty net with assistance from Higgins and goaltender Bryan Hince. Hince stopped 31 shots, and the Ice Bears earned a shutout victory, 5-0.

The Ice Bears will be back in the Civic Coliseum Friday, March 7 for "Classic Car Night." Come watch Knoxville take on the Huntsville Havoc, and vote on your favorite classic car. There will be over 30 classic cars on display. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
