COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Andrew Loewen stopped all 25 shots against and the Columbus Cottonmouths (22-22-3) kept the Mississippi RiverKings (25-19-3) scoreless on seven power play opportunities in a 3-0 RiverKings loss on Saturday night.
The RiverKings outshot the Snakes 9-1 through the first ten minutes of play, but Columbus found their stride at the midway point. Preston Shupe deflected a Neilsson Arcibal shot from the blueline past Matt Krahn on the power play 12:34 into the first to put the Cottonmouths on top 1-0. Forty-five minutes later, the Snakes struck again. Will Aide's wrist shot beat Krahn over the glove to give Columbus a 2-0 lead that they took into the first intermission.
In the second, the Snakes killed off over four minutes of penalties before they increased their lead. Steve Mele tallied the second Snakes power play goal of the night on a slap shot from the high slot with 9:18 left in the second. The teams skated a scoreless third as Columbus handed the RiverKings their second straight loss.
Matt Krahn (13-10-3) took the loss after stopping 25 of 28 shots against. Andrew Loewen (17-13-1) tallied his fourth shutout of the season after turning aside all 25 shots against.
