Huskies Use Wade Stadium Magic to Beat Waterloo 6-5
June 23, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
After 8 1/2 innings of dry skies, a relentless downpour throughout Wade Stadium halted play for 15 minutes while the Duluth Huskies had the bases loaded and 1 out, trailing by 2 runs. 10 minutes later, Brandon Compton ended the night with a walk-off single.
The Huskies' bats once again were cold against the Bucks' for most of the night, as they went 7 of 9 innings without plating a run. However, once again, Wade Stadium magic came out in the 9th. The Bucks came out of the rain delay and walked in the 2 tying runs, which sent Compton up with the chance to end it, and he came up clutch.
Pitching-wise for Duluth, Issac Rhode opened the game and set the table for DJ Burke to go until the 8th inning. Burke looked sharp but lost command at the end and gave up two earned in his last inning of work after nearing 100 pitches. Burke struck out 5 and walked 2 in 5.1 innings of work.
The Huskies threatened in the 9th inning as droplets of rain cascaded the Wade Stadium turf, sending the tying run to the plate with nobody out before the brief rain delay.
The Huskies avoid a sweep against Waterloo and are now tied for first in the Great Plains East division.
The Huskies will open up a home-and-home series against the Eau Claire Express tomorrow on the road before hosting them on Sunday afternoon.
