Hurricanes Prospect Boychuk Has Pin Removed From Wrist

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that center Zach Boychuk, the team's 2008 first-round (14th overall) draft pick, has had a pin removed from his surgically repaired left wrist. The post-surgical procedure, performed by Dr. George Edwards, will prevent Boychuk from taking contact in practice for two weeks.

Boychuk, 18, led all WHL skaters in 2008 with 13 playoff goals as his Lethbridge Hurricanes won three postseason series and the WHL's Eastern Conference title before falling to the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL finals. Boychuk (5'10", 175 lbs.) finished the 2007-08 regular season ranked second among Lethbridge skaters with 72 points, tied for second with 33 goals and led the team with a plus-26 plus/minus rating despite playing in just 61 of the Hurricanes' 72 regular-season games. The Airdrie, Alb., native played in all seven of Team Canada's games en route to its fourth consecutive gold medal at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships.
