Hurba's Five-RBI Night Paces Offensive Contest

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Craig Hurba drove in five runs for Kansas City as the T-Bones (36-45) evened their three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers (35-47) with an 11-7 win tonight at Alexian Field.

Kansas City plated four unearned runs against Ed Almonte (5-10) in the first inning to gain a quick 4-0 lead. Aharon Eggleston reached safely on an error to start the game and later scored on a two-out, three-run double by Hurba. Jim Fasano followed with a double of his own to cap off the scoring.

Dustin Bolton (5-5) surrendered a walk and two singles to begin the bottom of the frame before a double play groundout forced in Schaumburg's first run. Richard Mercado and Lyndon Poole each collected RBI singles later in the inning to pull the Flyers within one, 4-3.

Jacob Blackwood singled home a run in the second to push the score to 5-3. Fasano added a solo home run in the third and Damian Rolls began the fourth with a solo shot to chase Almonte from the game. Almonte allowed seven runs, three earned, on eight hits in three-plus innings in the loss.

Back-to-back doubles by Mercado and Jeff Dunbar began the third for Schaumburg. Dunbar later scored the Flyers' fifth run on an RBI groundout by T.J. Wilson. Craig Maddox made the score 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly.

Blackwood drove in another run with a single in the top of the sixth before scoring on a two-run single by Hurba to give Kansas City a 10-6 advantage. Bolton threw a scoreless fifth before leaving in favor of Justin James after a leadoff walk in the sixth. James surrendered an RBI double to Felix Jose for Schaumburg's final run of the game.

Bolton was charged with seven runs on nine hits over five-plus innings in the win. James and Daniel Sattler each threw two scoreless innings of relief to finish the game for the T-Bones.

Eggleston singled and scored on a double play groundout to cap the scoring at 11-7 in the seventh.

Rolls finished three-for-four with a home run, an RBI and three runs scored. Tonight was the sixth straight game in which he collected at least one hit, drove in at least one run and scored at least once. He has also homered in four straight and in five of his last six contests.

Chris Rhoads (5-3, 5.64) takes the mound as Kansas City looks for a series win tomorrow afternoon against Carmen Pignatiello (6-9, 6.04) and the Flyers. First pitch is set for 1:20.
