Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - Damian Rolls reached based six times as the Kansas City T-Bones defeated the Schaumburg Flyers 11-7 on Saturday in front of 3,489 fans at Alexian Field.
The T-Bones wasted no time getting on the board, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after a bases clearing double by Craig Hurba in the first.
The Flyers looked to answer in the bottom half of their inning. Travis Brown led off with a walk, and back-to-back hits by Antoan Richardson and Victor Ferrante loaded the bases. Felix Jose grounded into a double play, but Brown scored to make it 4-1. Richard Mercado was up next, and lined a base hit to left field to cut the T-Bones lead in half at 4-2. Left fielder Lyndon Poole kept the line moving, driving in Mercado to make the score 4-3. A Tony Mansolino ground out ended the inning for the Flyers.
With the T-Bones getting runs in both the second and third, the Flyers got back on the board with back-to-back doubles by Dunbar and Mercado to put the score at 6-4 T-Bones in the third. TJ Wilson added an RBI ground out making it 6-5.
Rolls led off the fourth with a solo home run, but again the Flyers answered in their half of the inning. A leadoff triple by Richardson gave Craig Maddox a chance to drive him in. A sacrifice fly got the job done, as the lead was once again cut to a single run at 7-6. That would be the closest the Flyers would get, as the T-Bones added three in the top of the sixth with RBI base hits from Jacob Blackwood and Hurba.
A Jose RBI double in the sixth would give the Flyers seven runs on the game, but it wouldn't be enough with the T-Bones adding their last run in the seventh, making it an 11-7 final. Ed Almonte took the loss for the Flyers, dropping him to 5-10 on the season. Almonte struck out three in the effort.
T-Bones starter Dustin Bolton took the win to even up his record at 5-5. Bolton went five innings, giving up seven earned runs and nine hits.
Reliever Tom Lyons made his first appearance since returning from the DL. The righty pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up one hit and striking out four.
The Flyers now stand at 35-47 on the season, while the T-Bones move to 36-45 on the year, holding onto fourth place in the Northern League.
LHP Carmen Pignatiello (6-9, 6.04) will get the start for the Flyers tomorrow. RHP Chris Rhoads (5-3, 5.64) will be on the hill for the T-Bones. It's Family Day at Alexian Field tomorrow, with first pitch at 1:20.
