Joliet JackHammers News Release


JOLIET- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (46-34) scored at least one run in each of the first five innings to beat the Joliet JackHammers (29-52) 12-1 before 3,795 fans at Silver Cross Field on Saturday night.

The RedHawks pushed across single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings. In the 1st inning, RF Mike Coles (1-5) worked a walk and advanced to second base on a balk by Joliet RHP Jason Novak (2-4). SS Zach Penprase (1-5) flew out to center field and Coles advanced to third base. An RBI groundout by CF Nic Jackson (1-5)scored Coles for a 1-0 RedHawks lead.

In the 2nd inning, 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn (3-6) lifted a solo home run to make it 2-0 Fargo-Moorhead.

Fargo-Moorhead added two runs in the 3rd and 4th innings respectively. In the 3rd inning, Penprase and Jackson earned back-to-back walks. 1B Ruben Salazar (2-4) was hit by a pitch.

DH Donzell McDonald (4-6) hit a single to score Penprase for a 3-0 lead. Jackson scored on past ball to make it 4-0.

After two runs in the 4th inning, Fargo-Moorhead advanced its lead to 9-0 on a 3-run home run by LF Justin Justice (1-4) in the 5th inning. McDonald and Piepkorn singled before Justice powered his 12th home run of the season to make it 9-1.

The JackHammers scored an unearned run in the 7th inning. LF Wally Backman, Jr. (2-4) hit a one-out single and moved to second base on a groundout by DH Tim Alberts (0-3). A wild pitch moved Backman, Jr to third base. He scored on a past ball to get the JackHammers on the scoreboard at 9-1.

Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs in the 8th inning to take a 12-1 lead. Salazar hit a single and moved to third base on a double by McDonald. Piepkorn laced a two-run double to score both runners. He later came around to score on a single by C Jeff Stevens (3-5) to make it 12-1.

LHP Jeff Icenogle (3-1) went six scoreless innings against the JackHammers to pick up the win. Novak went four innings and allowed eight runs on seven hits to suffer the loss.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers recorded 9 strikeouts at the game on Saturday. That means everyone at the ballpark can bring their ticket stub to a participating Texas Roadhouse restaurant for a free baby blossom appetizer. The offer is valid at the Texas Roadhouse locations in Joliet, Tinley Park and Naperville and is good for only one week.

The JackHammers and RedHawks finish their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. It's the Hooters Team Photo Giveaway to all fans at the game. The JackHammers will also host autographs after the game on the field as part of Family Autograph Sunday. It's also the Wine, Women and Baseball as well as the Beer, Brats, Boys and Baseball luxury suite ticket promotion. The JackHammers will also host the Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Game between the Joliet Police and Fire Departments game following the JackHammers game. The RedHawks send LHP Broc Coffman (9-5, 5.29) to the mound against LHP Devin Anderson (1-3, 5.71) for the JackHammers.
