Huntsville Picks Up Big Win Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc struggled in their first two games of the week dropping a 7-4 decision to Columbus on Tuesday and a 4-1 loss to Knoxville on Friday before rebounding with a big overtime win over Knoxville on Saturday.

Tuesday, February 21 - Columbus 7, Huntsville 4

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Columbus Cottonmouths raced out to a 3-1 lead after one period and kept their foot on the gas in a 7-4 win over the Huntsville Havoc Tuesday night.

Orrin Hergott scored the first goal of the night with 10:34 left in the first period. Rick Schrank tied the game at 1-1 with 7:50 left before Jordan Braid and Mitch Wall both added late first period goals.

Greg Beller scored the only goal of the second period with 11:55 remaining and Columbus had a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.

Stuart Stefan cut the lead to 4-1 just 1:17 into the third period. Peter MacDougall extended the lead back to 5-3 with 14:46 left and Stefan cut it back to a two goal lead :30 later.

Derek Pallardy scored with 7:54 left and Ryan Pearson scored a powerplay goal with 6:02 left to give the Cottonmouths a 7-3 lead. Ray Ortiz scored on the powerplay for the Havoc with 3:36 remaining.

Mark Sibbald made 17 saves in the loss while Andrew Loewen made 33 in the win.

Friday, February 24 - Huntsville 1, Knoxville 4

KNOXVILLE, TN - Mark Van Vliet scored a goal and had three assists as the Knoxville Ice Bears beat the Huntsville Havoc 4-1 Friday night to extend the Havoc losing streak to five games.

Kevin Swider, Eric Satim and Emery Olauson all scored goals for the Ice Bears.

Stuart Stefan continued his strong play for the Havoc by scoring the only goal. Kyle Crawford recorded an assist.

Mark Sibbald allowed three goals and made 37 saves as Knoxville outshot Huntsville 41-33. Kyle Rank made 32 saves in the win.

Saturday, February 25 - Knoxville 2, Huntsville 3 - OT

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Ray Ortiz scored just :44 into overtime giving the Huntsville Havoc a big 3-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears on Saturday night. The win snapped a five game losing streak for the Havoc.

The Havoc got on the board first when Kyle Crawford scored a powerplay goal with 10:51 remaining in the first period.

Berkley Scott scored with 12:40 left in the second period on the powerplay to the tie the game at 1-1.

David Segal gave the Ice Bears a 2-1 lead with 15:37 left in the third but Brad Flynn tied the game with 12:24 remaining.

Kevin Beech made 27 saves in the win while Kyle Rank made 33 in the loss.
