Hunter's Hat-Trick Propels Komets Past River Otters 4-3

Matt Hunter's hat-trick led the Fort Wayne Komets past the Missouri River Otters 4-3 Friday night in front of 3,331 fans at the Family Arena.

The Komets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Hunter scored goals 17 and 44 seconds into the game. The River Otters demonstrated tremendous heart and resolve coming back to take a 3-2 lead before the end of the period. The first two goals were scored by Scott Dobben, playing in his first game as a River Otter, while the go-ahead goal was scored on a tremendous play by Mike Richards. Neither team scored in the second period and the River Otters took a 3-2 lead into the final frame. Fort Wayne tied the game when Hunter completed his hat-trick midway through the third period, and they took the lead for good when Guy Dupuis hammered home a slap-shot from the top of the right face-off circle. Kevin Kurk made 13 saves in the victory while Brenden Cuthbert made 40 saves in defeat.

The River Otters head to Kalamazoo to take on the K-Wings Saturday night at Wings Stadium.
