Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- In its first game at the Rockford MetroCentre in 20 days, the Rockford IceHogs fell to the Richmond RiverDogs 3-2 in front of 4,351 fans. Evgeny Lavarez netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the third, to lead the RiverDogs to its first ever win over the IceHogs.
Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period to take the MetroCentre crowd out of the game. Winger Mike Oliveira made a pretty move around Rockford IceHogs goalie Ronnie Vogel at 8:31 for the 1-0 edge. Later in the opening frame, Lazarev hammered home a two-on-one centering feed from Joey Bastien to extend the lead to 2-0 at 15:48.
In the second period, Rockford cut the lead in half on the power play. Rookie center Steve Yetman set winger Jason Notermann up at 12:28 to make the score 2-1. In the third, Rockford tied the contest at 2-2 with Dan Boeser's third goal of the campaign at 7:17.
Rockford, however, couldn't keep the RiverDogs off the board late as Lazarev's shot deflected off of an IceHogs defenseman and past Vogel for the game-winner at 15:52. Richmond goalie Mike D'Alessandro was solid between the pipes making 25 saves to earn the win.
Next Home Game: Saturday, March 18 vs. Adirondack Frostbite. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under will receive a replica IceHogs Youth Jersey from Ameriprise Financial, WXRX-FM 104.9 and 13WREX. Also, Molly McMaster, co-founder of the Colon Club, will suit up and become the first female skater to play in an IceHogs game. March is "The UHL Cross Checks Colon Cancer" month. The UHL and the Colon Club have collaborated to raise awareness about Colon Cancer during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
