Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

BATHURST, N.B. - Jonathan Huberdeau scored the winning goal 23 seconds into overtime to lift the Saint John Sea Dogs to a 3-2 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Friday.

Steven Anthony and Zack Phillips had the other goals for Saint John and Mathieu Corbeil made 22 saves for his second win in as many nights.

Jeremie Malouin and Zach O'Brien scored in a losing cause for the Titan, and Olivier Roy suffered the loss despite making 36 saves as Bathurst fell to 41-21-2-1.

The win was the fifth straight for the Sea Dogs and 20th in 21 games, as they improved to 55-6-1-2, extending club records in wins and points (113). Meanwhile, the Dogs crept one game closer to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League mark for wins. With four wins in their final four games, Saint John could best the record of 58 victories established by the Sorel Eperviers in 1973-74 and matched by the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs in 1978-79.

All the scoring in regulation time came in the second period. After a scoreless first, Malouin potted a rebound at 4:34 of the second to open the scoring. Anthony equalized on a great individual effort at 7:37, stealing the puck from Garrett Clarke and beating Roy with a deke to the backhand. The unassisted goal was Anthony's 22nd of the season.

Roy robbed Alexandre Beauregard and Ryan Tesink on great chances in the ensuing minutes, keeping the score 1-1. O'Brien then capitalized on a power play at 11:07 of the second to give Bathurst a 2-1 lead.

Phillips brought things even once again on a Saint John power play at 12:16, finishing a nice bit of stickhandling with a snapshot for his 38th of the year. Simon Despres and Nathan Beaulieu had the assists.

The Titan had a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead with a two-man advantage for 1:21 late in the second. But Stephen MacAulay won the ensuing draw and cleared to set the tone for a great penalty kill highlighted by the work of Anthony, Mike Thomas and others.

The Sea Dogs outshot Bathurst 13-4 in the third period, but Roy and the Titan held on for the single point, forcing the extra frame.

Just 23 seconds in, Huberdeau picked the puck up on the left wing, dragged it around a defenseman and roofed it on Roy for the game-winner, giving him an even 40 goals on the season. Assists went to Gabriel Bourret and Eric Gelinas.

The road trip continues when the Sea Dogs visit the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Sunday at 2 p.m. and the Prince Edward Island Rocket at 7 p.m. Wednesday before wrapping up the season with two home games.
