Houston (May 24, 2010) - Houston is currently ranked first out of eighteen cities included in the U.S. Bid to host the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup(tm). Houston surpassed six top cities in just one week moving from seventh place to first place and now has the most votes on the GOUSABID.COM online petition. As Houston continues its efforts to secure a spot as host city, fans are invited to show their support for the United States and Houston by signing the online petition at goUSAbid.com/Houston .

The U.S. Bid Book includes 18 host city finalists : Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C

In addition to the United States, bids were submitted by Australia, England and Russia for the FIFA World Cup(tm) in 2018 or 2022. Netherlands-Belgium and Portugal-Spain each submitted joint bids for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. Japan, Qatar and South Korea bid to host the tournament in 2022. Decisions on host countries for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups will be announced on December 2, 2010, in Zurich, Switzerland.
