Houston Dynamo FC News Release

Houston Dynamo Head coach Wilmer Cabrera

(on preparing for the first game of the year) "We are finishing up the little details, trying to put those in place. We have a good mentality. We are ready."

(on if the success in the preseason will translate to Saturday) "We will see. We have to wait until we play Saturday and the rest of the games this season. We hope that we have done well so far, but it is a test every weekend. It will be a test every week and we have our first test on Saturday. We have to wait until we are ready to play, then play the game and then we have to review after that."

(on if he has set any long-term goals for the season) "No, we cannot set anything, in terms of winning the titles or scoring the most goals. That, for me, is unreal. We have to focus on every game. We have a goal to make the playoffs. That's the goal that we have. I'm pretty sure that is a goal the other 21 clubs have. I think we all have the same goals, who will be able to do it? We have to see game by game."

(on what concerns him about Seattle) "We respect them, but we are not worried. We really respect the team, because they are champions right now. We have to have a lot of respect for them, but we have to worry about what we do on the field as a team and individually."

(on what stood out about Memo Rodriguez and Taylor Hunter at RGV FC last year) "They put up numbers, numbers throughout the season. Memo was top in assists for the Toros and he was second in scoring goals. Taylor Hunter, when he came in and played that role of center back, the team went a lot of games without conceding goals. We signed George Malki when he was starting as a right back, he's very good. And those are the numbers you expect from the players. At the very end, statistically, when you analyze players you have to review the statistics and they are going to support you or not support you. In this case, for the players throughout the preseason, it was enough to sign with the first team."

Houston Dynamo DF Dylan Remick

(on playing Seattle on Saturday) "I mean, I don't think it's going to sink in until I see my former teammates. Obviously, I am aware it's going to be a weird and cool and special game and situation for me, but the most important thing is the result and that's what we are looking forward too."

(on the habits a championship team has and if the Dynamo has those habits) "I think, first and foremost the ability to win games. I know it's only preseason, but being able to win that Desert Diamond Cup just sets that winning mentality in everybody's mind; it increases the competitive nature within everybody, everybody wants to play every game. I think those two aspects have really shown themselves throughout everybody in the team and the team itself as a whole. When you have that winning mentality and that competitive nature, I think those are key facets into being a championship team."

Houston Dynamo MF Memo Rodriguez

(on RGV FC helping him get to the Dynamo) "Playing time was key; exposure, playing key minutes to be able to perform at the highest level that I can. (I need to) bring (that) attitude here and show it off to the coaches. Hopefully I get some minutes in this year."

(on him expecting to be with the Dynamo last year) "I felt like I had a great season last year. I never got too comfortable; (head coach) Wilmer (Cabrera) tells us to not get to comfortable. Him being a coach over there and telling us not to get comfortable, to have a shot here, made me want to work even harder this preseason. I did as much in power to the best I can this preseason."

Houston Dynamo FW Alberth Elis

(on the first game of the season) "We're calm; this is what we prepare for. We have trained for more than a month for this game and we want to put on a show, Lord willing."

(on what the team has focused on this week) "A little bit of everything. There are a lot of new faces here so we have had to adapt and get familiar with each other. We are slowly but surely getting to a good point and we're ready for the start of the season, which we hope will bring everyone a lot of joy."

(on adapting to MLS) "Things have gone well. I've been received well and now I have to show on the field why they brought me to the league."

(on how it helps to have players like Vicente Sánchez in the locker room) "He is always supporting the younger players; he brings a lot of experience and I am happy to have him here to help us adapt."
