PORTLAND, Ore. - Kicking off the 2017 MLS season, the Portland Timbers play host to expansion side Minnesota United FC on Friday at Providence Park. Friday's contest, the opening match of the 2017 MLS season, features a live national broadcast on FS1, starting at 6:30 p.m. (Pacific), with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
Compiling one of the league's best home records over the last four seasons, Portland enters Friday's game with a 36-10-22 regular-season mark at Providence Park (2011-2016) after winning 12 home games in 2016. The Timbers' 12 wins at Providence Park rank as the most home victories in the club's MLS era.
Since 2011, Portland is 3-0-3 in MLS home openers, most recently producing a 2-1 victory against Columbus Crew SC to start the 2016 MLS season. While facing Western Conference teams at Providence Park, Portland has produced a 27-5-16 overall regular-season record since the start of the 2013 MLS campaign. In addition, the Timbers are 8-0-5 in their last 13 home openers across all eras of the club (since 1975).
The meeting between Portland and Minnesota on Friday marks the first-ever MLS match between the two sides, as Minnesota begins its inaugural campaign in the league. Prior to joining MLS, the Timbers and Minnesota met 33 times while playing in USL (2001-2010). During that stretch, the Timbers compiled a 13-6-14 record, losing only lost twice in the last 25 matches against Minnesota.
Following Friday's match, the Timbers will hit the road for the first time in 2017, traveling to face the LA Galaxy on Sunday, March 12, at the StubHub Center. The March 12 match will be broadcast live on FS1 with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish); kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (Pacific).

Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse to face U-20 El Salvador National Team with U-20 U.S. Men's National Team Friday
Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse received his fourth straight start with the U-20 U.S. Men's National Team this past Monday, playing 57 minutes in the team's 1-0 victory against Mexico's U-20 side in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championships. The win marked the U-20 U.S. MNT's first win against Mexico in 31 years, while also marking Mexico's first loss in the tournament since 2009.
With the win, the United States now sit in first place in Group D, heading into their final classification group game against El Salvador on Friday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. (Pacific).
Boke Dokie to be featured food cart Friday at Providence Park
For a sixth consecutive season, fans will be able to enjoy food from some of the most popular food carts around Portland, including Friday's featured food cart, Boke Dokie, as part of the Portland Timbers Food Cart Alliance (PTFCA).
The PTFCA is designed to highlight Portland's food-cart culture, with featured food carts Nong's Khao Man Gai, Kim Jong Grillin, Boke Dokie and 808 Grinds regularly appearing at Providence Park for both Timbers and Portland Thorns FC home matches in 2017. Academy Update: Timbers Academy midfielder Adrian Villegas named to U.S. U-17 Men's National Team roster
Portland Timbers Academy midfielder Adrian Villegas was recently named to the U.S. U-17 Men's National Team roster as part of head coach John Hackworth's 26-player roster for the team's latest international camp, as the U-17 continues to prepare for the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship.
The Timbers U-16 and U-18 Academy teams will return to league play this weekend, facing the San Jose Earthquakes Academy and Juventus Sport Club on the road.
Timbers to hold 50/50 raffle in 2017 presented by Carl's Jr.
Presented by Carl's Jr., fans will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets at all Timbers and Thorns FC home games in 2017 from the time gates open until the 60th minute, and jackpot totals will be displayed in real time on the scoreboard and at the 50/50 kiosks located throughout the stadium. One winning ticket will be selected and announced at the 70th minute of the match, with the winner taking home half of the event's jackpot. The remaining proceeds benefit the Portland State University Foundation and the Fields for All Initiative.

The Timbers' weekly radio talk show, "Talk Timbers," airs every Wednesday evening beginning at 6 p.m. (Pacific) on flagship station 750 The Game. "Talk Timbers" provides team and league news as well as interviews with Timbers coaches and players during the season, and also features regular updates on T2 and Portland Thorns FC. This week's guests included head coach Caleb Porter and Timbers forward Fanendo Adi.
