Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo Football Club has parted ways with Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan, the Club announced today.
"After spending the last several weeks observing and evaluating a number of facets of our organization, I determined that it is in the best interest of the Club to go in a different direction with our soccer operations leadership," said Houston Dynamo Football Club majority owner Ted Segal. "I want to thank Matt for all of his contributions to the Dynamo. He added to our championship history, aligned the Dynamo Academy and the first team, and was extremely generous with his time and knowledge as I prepared to take stewardship of the Club."
A search for a new general manager will begin immediately.
Under Jordan's leadership, the Dynamo earned a trip to the MLS Western Conference Final in 2017, the seventh trip to a conference final in Club history. A year later, the Dynamo captured the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship for the first time in Club history, with the Dynamo later advancing to the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals.
Jordan was instrumental in the recruitment and signing of star players such as forward Mauro Manotas, who signed as a 19-year-old and departed last winter as the Club's second-leading scorer, and forward Alberth Elis, who contributed 36 goals and 30 assists in all competitions from 2017-20.
"I'd like to wish everyone at Houston Dynamo FC all the best moving forward. I'm appreciative of the opportunity to work with such dedicated people over the years including ownership, front office staff, coaches and players," Jordan said. "I'm proud that during my time with the Club we won a Championship, reached a Western Conference Final and established a strong foundation with our Academy and technical infrastructure to build on in the future."
Jordan played a lead role in creating a full developmental pipeline through the Dynamo Academy, from the grass roots level with the club's city-wide Centers of Excellence program starting at the U-10 level and continuing through the Houston Dynamo FC first team. Under his leadership, the Dynamo signed nine Dynamo Academy players to professional contracts, including Houston natives Memo Rodriguez, Marcelo Palomino, Juan Castilla and Danny Rios, all on the current Dynamo roster.
In addition to his contributions in player personnel, Jordan had a central role in improving the Dynamo's training facility at Houston Sports Park, including the construction of a new training pitch for the Dynamo first team and a series of improvements to the team locker room, coaches' offices and Dynamo Academy coaches' offices.
