Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Tuesday, July 21, 2015) - The Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City continue their rivalry tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT at Sporting Park. Tonight's game will be broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS Southwest Alternate Channel (7 p.m. pregame; channel guide) and TeleXitos (7 p.m. pregame; Spanish) and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and in Spanish on La Ranchera 850 AM and 101.7 FM.
Tonight is the third meeting this season between Houston and Sporting KC, with the first two games producing 12 total goals. The rivals met 11 days ago in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals at Sporting Park and the hosts scored three times in the final 20 minutes for a 3-1 win. Will Bruin tallied his 50th career Dynamo goal in the defeat. The clubs also played to a wild 4-4 draw on April 25 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Giles Barnes and Benny Feilhaber each scored two goals and Sporting KC overcame 3-1 and 4-3 deficits to steal a road point.
Houston and Sporting KC forged the best postseason rivalry in MLS from 2011-13, when they met in the playoffs three straight seasons and the Dynamo won two of three series. Tonight's encounter is the 19th game between the clubs in all competitions since 2011, and Sporting KC holds a 7-4-7 edge in the recent series. Remarkably, the home team has won just once in the last eight meetings between these clubs, with an 1-3-4 mark.
The Dynamo are set to welcome back Giles Barnes (Jamaica) and DaMarcus Beasley (U.S.) after they participated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Beasley also started the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday in Colorado.
Sporting KC is currently riding a nine-game home winning streak in all competitions, a club record, and is unbeaten in 13 consecutive home games in all competitions, one shy of a franchise record.
Bruin has scored in three consecutive games against Sporting KC while Dom Dwyer has tallied goals in five straight games against the Dynamo.
The Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 8 to host the San Jose Earthquakes. For tickets for the Dynamo's tenth season, including five-game plans starting at $99, visit www.HoustonDynamo.com or call 713-276-GOAL.
