Houston Dash News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Houston Dash lost to Kansas City NWSL by a final score of 3-0 at Legends Field this evening. This loss snaps Houston's three-game winning streak and this was the first loss for the Dash since a 1-0 defeat against OL Reign on Sept. 1.
Houston drops down to a three-way tie for fourth place following the match in Kansas City. Houston, the Chicago Red Stars and North Carolina Courage are tied with 32 points and Houston owns the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Courage.
Kansas City struck first after forward Darian Jenkins found the back of the net in the 18th minute. Jenkins took the shot just behind the 18 yard box and snuck the ball past Dash GK Jane Campbell's fingertips hitting the top corner of the far post.
Kansas City forward Elizabeth Ball helped Kansas City extend its lead in the 36th minute off a cross from Katie Bowen. Houston conceded a foul outside the box and Bowen's service found Ball at the far post for the second goal of the game.
The final goal of the game came from the penalty spot after Campbell conceded a foul inside the box in second half stoppage time. Lo' LaBonta converted from the penalty spot for the final goal of the game.
Houston's first chance of the night came off the foot of Dash defender Allysha Chapman as she attempted to even out the score with a shot on goal in 27th minute.
Midway through the second half, the Dash had a chance off a corner kick and a header from forward Rachel Daly that was ultimately cleared by Kansas City.
The Dash will return to PNC Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. CDT when they host the Portland Thorns. Sunday's match is the final regular season game of the year and tickets are available at HoustonDash.com/tickets.
