SUDBURY, ON - The 25th game of the Ontario Hockey League season saw the Hounds skate into the Sudbury Community Arena for Game 2 of the Bell Challenge Cup with the Wolves.
Entering Friday Night, the Hounds had secured 3 out of a possible 4 points and the locals were looking to start their latest Central Division swing on a positive note.
First year forward LANDON SCHILLER returned to the line-up while defenceman TYLER GANLY did not make the trip and will serve his two game OHL suspension over the weekend.
Goaltender MATT MURRAY returned to the Hounds net after sitting on the sidelines the past three games as he overcame sickeness that swept throughout the team's dressing room. The Thunder Bay, ON product would face the bulk of the shots on this night ending with 54 saves.
Wolves forward Danny Desrochers opened the game's scoring on one of Sudbury's 19 shots in the period. A Charlie Dodero point shot was touched twice on it's way through before Desrochers redirected it past Murray for a 1-0 Wolves lead.
DYLAN STAPLES evened the game with 3:35 to go in the period sliding a rebound past Taylor Dupuis, his 5th of the season, and the two Northern rivals skated to a 1-1 tie after twenty minutes.
JARED MCCANN gave the Hounds their first lead of the game just 1:30 into the second. With two Hounds outnumbering Sudbury in their zone, McCann opted for the shot that beat Dupuis gloveside for his 9th goal of the year.
MURRAY would keep the Soo lead as just following a Wolves powerplay, Dominik Kahun got behind the Hounds defence but the Hounds reminder snagged it with his glovehand to keep the lead.
Shortly after NICK COUSINS was stopped on his team's 13th shot of the game, the Hounds would go on an extended powerplay (five minutes) after Brody Silk was assessed an instigator, fighting major and game misconduct.
On the ensuing powerplay MCCANN notched his 2nd of the night stepping to the top of the circle before firing a low shot through and a 3-1 lead.
NICK HALAGIAN was credited with his 2nd of the year at the 16:25 mark when an intended pass went off the stick of Wolve Chad Thibodeau and the Hounds had given themselves a three goal cushion late in the period.
Frank Corrado responded on a Sudbury powerplay and then 32 second laster Josh Leivo fired a shot off the right wing and the Hounds lead was trimmed to 4-3 after forty minutes.
The third period would start and end with two big penalty kills for the Hounds. Just over a minute into the third Sudbury went to their third powerplay of the game but came up empty handed.
Midway through the period things would go even when Nicholas Baptiste slid the puck under Murray for a 4-4 score.
And in a period that displayed great pace, RYAN SPROUL went on an end-to-end rush before firing his 3rd goal of the season home and lift the Hounds back into the lead. The goal would stand as the winner as the Hounds killed off a late Sudbury powerplay with 2:50 to go and skated to the 5-4 road win.
With the victory the Hounds improved to 11-12-2-0 on the season, and jumped overtop Saginaw for 4th in the division and 8th in the conference. The locals end their quick two game roadtrip on Saturday Night with a trip to the Molson Centre in Barrie against the Colts. Opening face-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the Bay Mills Resort & Casinos pre-game show begins on Rock 101 at 7 p.m.
